I stopped by Breads Bakery in New York and was blown away by the quality and variety of their baked goods. The challah bread was soft, flavorful, and perfectly baked, and their pastries were fresh and delightful. The café has a cozy, welcoming vibe, and the staff made me feel right at home. It’s a must-visit spot for anyone who loves exceptional bread and sweet treats. I’ll definitely be coming back soon.

The chocolate Babka is incredible. Came here just for this and I’m so glad I did. Delicious and chocolatey, yet light because of the bread like dough. Even as I was walking someone saw me with a breads bakery bag and said “did you get the chocolate babka?” So clearly if you know you know. Now you know too - go try it!!

Babka only comes in whole pre-packaged loaves, so take it home and warm it up! So rich and chocolatey and gooey. It keeps well and stays moist. I didn't find the rugelegh that unique tasting, just a chocolatey croissant. It's still tasty, but the babka was definitely the highlight for me!

Best croissant in New York. Rivals the ones in France. No idea what an “authentic” babka should taste like but imo, their chocolate babka is also exceptional.

If you’re looking for a sign to treat yourself, this is it. Breads Bakery continues to prove why they are a New York institution—not just for the bread, but for the soul-warming flavors they pack into every single menu item. Here is the breakdown of my latest (and arguably greatest) haul: The Tunisian Sandwich The Flavor Bomb This isn't just a sandwich; it’s an architectural masterpiece. The focaccia is the perfect pillowy vessel for the Chunk Italian Tuna, which is incredibly fresh and high-quality. But the real magic is the interplay of textures—the creaminess of the hard-boiled eggs, the bite of the potatoes, and the salty punch of kalamata olives. The spicy harissa provides a slow, sophisticated heat that ties everything together. It’s bold, bright, and utterly addictive. Butternut Squash Soup Hug in a Bowl Pure, velvety comfort. This soup is the gold standard for autumn/winter eats. It’s rich and deeply savory without being overly heavy, highlighting the natural sweetness of the squash. It’s exactly what you want to be eating on a brisk afternoon, especially if you have a side of their famous baguette to dip into it. Banana Chocolate Chip Cake The Showstopper Do not call this "banana bread"—it’s a Banana Chocolate Chip Cake, and it demands respect. The crumb is impossibly moist and dense with real banana flavor, and they don't skimp on the chocolate chips. Every bite gives you that perfect melt-in-your-mouth chocolate-to-cake ratio. It’s decadent enough for dessert but dangerously easy to justify for breakfast. > Pro Tip: If you're ordering the Tunisian, ask for an extra napkin—it’s packed to the brim, and you won’t want to miss a single drop of that harissa oil. The Secret Ingredient: The Staff What truly elevates the experience is the team behind the counter. Even when the line is out the door, the staff moves with a practiced grace and a genuine smile. They are incredibly knowledgeable—if you’re undecided, just ask for a recommendation, and they’ll point you toward your new favorite thing. Their energy makes the bakery feel less like a shop and more like a neighborhood kitchen.
